Spring & Fall 2027
Curious minds wanted.
I am actively recruiting Ph.D. students to join my research group in Industrial Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Who I am looking for
I am looking for highly-motivated students who enjoy moving across mathematical ideas, understanding complex engineering problems, and abstracting those problems into precise mathematical models. Strong candidates are motivated both by real-world impact and by the mathematical spark—a new formulation, insight, proof, or algorithm—that unlocks a difficult problem.
Relevant backgrounds include mathematics, statistics, computer science, industrial engineering, and related engineering disciplines. Strong mathematical intuition is especially important. Students should be fluent in using AI tools responsibly while remaining able to independently validate generated reasoning, technical content, and code.
Potential research directions
Research may draw on adaptive learning, information theory, efficient kernel approximation, distribution estimation, and optimization. These methods can support applications in manufacturing, battery management, healthcare, quantum computing, and other complex engineering systems.
How to express interest
Please send the following materials by email:
- Your current CV.
- Your transcripts.
- A sample publication, if available.
- A short statement explaining your research interests and the questions you hope to pursue.
Use the subject line Prospective Ph.D. Student — 2027 so I can identify your message easily.
